I always loved doing mine with "piggy tail" french braids that ended with a hi-pony tail. SO basically, two braids going back about a hands length, with a messing bun.

okay girlfriend... Number one, try the curling shampoo. thats the name of it. Or... you can braid it after you take a shower and let it dry that way. If you shower at night then braid your hair and go to sleep like that. In the morning after you un-braid your hair, put a little gel in it, so that your hair wouldnt be puffy. The last thing that you can do is after you take a shower, at night, put it up in a bun and sleep like that, or scrunch it....
either use a straitener, or scrunch it, or put hair curlers in!
They have shampoos out now that curl your hair .Try that

just put knots all over your hair and it will come out curly.
Try a rag curl. It's easy to do and easy on the hair. Just wrap hair around bits of a torn up rag and go to bed that way. In the morning you wake up to a gentle, natural curl.
use um gel and scrunch it up with you hands put hairspray then dry it or air dry
DONT use velcro curlers, when you take them out, you will split the curls and end up with massive frizz instead of curls.
You can braid your hair when wet and let it dry that way, lots of little braids, if you use a good curl-holding gel before you braid it, then when you unbraid youll have lots of soft waves, which look more natural than curling irons and curlers, and is easier on your hair. Just DONT brush it after you unbraid, style it loose and with your fingers, not a comb or brush, or youll split the curls and get frizz instead.
You can try a curling shampoo, but I havent seen much luck with those.
You can do rag curls, which come out looking great, someone else told you about them though.
well.. they have these really good soft rollers.
They are made for sleeping in.
And in the morning you have really spirally pretty hair, I love them.

I try this all the time and it works really good just moose your hair up really well and braid it up this will give it a really crinkly look but it will curl it too and if you dont sleep on it or get it wet too much it should stay crinkly for a few day just try re-moosing it every night. But you dont have to use moose. Just use some kind of hair holder.
I think old fashioned hair curlers are best- they don't damage hair at all.

The way I always see it done is with hair straighteners. Get some ceramic soft wave tongs, and then work through the hair with matte styling clay etc. and then hair spray it to finish.

I guess you're a brunette, leave it your natural color its the best. I have 2 ideas:
1- straighten it then take the top begining part of your hair and collect it, then take a clip and clip it to the end of ur head. Try to make the top part a little puffy.
2- straighten it again, make two braids on each side but smalll cute ones and tie them together at the back of your hair. I'll send some pics when i find them.
well u could tie up ur hair into a bun or plait ur hair in one big plait roll it up like u would for a bun then the remaining of ur hair, take a big clip and clip it and there should ba a piece of ur hair hanging out

Tie your hair up into a high ponytail. The ponytail should be...up to your ears. Then curl the ends. Gives a cute look to it.

You can also tied it up in a bun. Make it either elegant, pretty, or cute and slightly messy. If you have some hair on the sides when you tied it up, don't hook it over your ears. Use clips and hold it. Looks really nice.

I have brown hair that reaches the middle of my back. It is extremely thick, and is naturally very straight. It lays flat against my head and it's very slippery.

I would suggest something with your hair half up, the back of it down... a half-ponytail if you catch my drift. Maybe curls the ends a bit. Having heavy, thick hair sometimes tends to be so heavy that curls don't seem to last.
Try this before, see if you like it. Perhaps go to a beauty salon an ask then to help you based on the type of dress (suggest you take a Polaroid picture with you, show they type of dress. Whatever the stylist does, suggest, make sure you like it, since pictures last forever!!! LESS IS MORE, CLASSIC NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.

make an appointment with a local stylist and bring in a picture of a celebrity's hair that you like-- i wouldn't do an updo because they always look so prom-cheesy. A sort of loose mermaid curl could be pretty or a brigitte bardot hairstyle that is pulled half up with lots of volume in the back-- that could be fun! good luck!

there are many lotions which you get to soften your hair. once you soften them u could use the special hair brushes u get in the market. its better u consult a hair dresser or a beautician in saloon coz they have perfect ideas of how your hair looks the best.

Her hair gets pretty dirty every day so she needs it washed at home and at the hairdressers. I don't usually have time to go home to wash it before the salon appointment after school and I work during the day and weekends are busy.
This will sound extremely silly, but my mother taught me to tell the kids that there are little sea monkeys in their hair and that the sea monkeys are SO sad because they want a bath. It doesn't always work, but it's helped. We turn it into a game and make up stories about the sea monkeys.
I know that won't help in the salon and I'll probably catch a lot of grief for being so deceitful with my kids, but it's a lot more fun for both of us than the old way.

You can get these plastic rings that go around there head so water doesn't go in there eyes. My daughter used to be terrified of having her ahir washed so I started letting her wash my hair after a few times she started letting me wash hers (we did it together).
Are you using the No Tears Johnson's Baby shampoo? Maybe she has a very sensitive scalp. Ask the pediatrician.
Try ear plugs. Maybe she hates getting water in her ears, I do! Ask her which color she likes best, maybe letting her get involved will make her feel more in control of the situation. Also, make certain you are using "no tears" shampoo. Good luck!!
You should tell her to listen or she will get a woopin' and if she doesn't listen, give her one. She is old enough to be yelled at and scollded. And if you don't have anytime just make time, And if you can't make time then get a good babysitter. Also you can give her a present if she is good and listens to you. Only if you want to.
Some of the above answers are really good ideas. I would try some of them, however I just found myself a solution just this past week. I have a 19month old girl and she didn't like for me to rinse her hair, she started to help with the washing part several weeks ago, but I was still having problems with the rinsing. I was picking up a few toys the other day and saw her watering can for plants. (it was a cheap plastic one). I let her play with it while in the bath and used it to rinse her body off she thought it was the neatest thing so I went 1 more step and used it on her head, she thought it was funny. She knows that she uses that to water plants I think that's why she thought it was to cool to use it on herself. Just an idea, good luck with this it is never easy to find solutions for things like this.
I let my son use a dry washcloth over his face, but that seemed to just drag the fear out longer. I eventually just started dumping it on his head and doing it quick and reminding him how it didn't hurt when it was done.
He still pulls away but at least he doesn't scream, and he's learning to wash his own hair (5yrs).

I personally like when hair like yours wears it in a messy pony. I think it looks pretty.
- Go curly! Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!
- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sulfates). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones. Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
-Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Use a towel or paper towels to gently scrunch some of the water out. Then let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores). The combo of products that I use daily is Garnier Fuctis Sleek and Shine Leave In Cream, then Aussie Tizz No Frizz Gel, and then Herbal Essences Set Me Up Gel but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working.This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

If you want straight Try brushing it wet with a little gel or mousse in it. That depends on HOW wavy it is though.

Other then that I only know of flat irons for straightening.

im not sure getting a perm would be the best idea. as if u dont like it there is basically no going back as it will leave your hair with split ends and could even get frizzy. maybe have a look online at different kind of updos you can do as there is alot of lovely looking styles out there at the moment. i used to have lovely long straight hair when i was just a kid and i wish i didnt put perms and things like that in it. hope this helps xx good luck oxox

I just slap a head band in mine. Get a ton of them so that you have enough to match what you are wearing every day! I think that it is really cute if you put your hair up in a ponytail with a headband!

get some light pink or brown highlights near the front and do braids or poof them back with a pin..strait hair is versatile and fun..curly hair is a pain..

try putting curlers in it to make it wavy or what i like to do is curl my hair before I go to sleep and then when i wake up it looks really wavy and pretty. or you can get a perm and then all youll have to do in the morning is put some mouse in it and youll be ready to go.

Have them cut layers in your hair. It doesn't matter how thin the actual hairs are, it's how many hair follicles you have. My mom just got her long, thin hair cut last week, and the hairstylist put about 5 layers in it. She absolutely loves it and it looks a lot thicker and healthier. You can ask them to cut one layer at a time and then you just decide what you're comfortable with. I'm going next week.....I'm so excited. 'Bout time I did somethin with this mess !! HeeHee. I have the same problem and lately i have looked through some old magizeens here are some ideas
pull some of your hair up into a ponytellbut leave your frount bangs down once you have the ponytail up in a rubber band take the left over and rap it around the pony tell as many times as needed the use a bobby pin to secretly tuck it under! its a casual yet fancy look and it keeps everyone wondering how you did it because if you do it right all they will see is the hair not the rubber band!
put crown area in pony tail. take section from the right side and wrap around the top of the pony tail holder;tie in knot and pin under the base of pony tail. take section from left side and go over pony tail;knot and pin. right side. left side.
when you reach the bottom place hair in bobby pin; twist wrist and pin in (under pony tail probably)
now to the front.
part your hair the way you want it and pin into place for now.
grab sections of hair, knot it and pin underneath the falling hair.
depending on the length of hair you might want to knot the base of the pony tail and pin down in an x and pin everything else to that. (hair with no layers)
believe me it sounds harder than it is; especially if you hot roller (and back comb) it first.
this style can also be varied easily to your personal style. for a wedding updo just pin the curls into place.
here's another one. from the ponytail position , loosen it just a little. part your hair down the middle under the elastic band, pull pony tail up; then down thru the parting. apply smoothig serum to midshaft of hair and put elastic band at ends of hair. wrap under and secure ends with clip
Take strands on top of your hair and twist them into little buns but pull some strands from the front and back to soften it.

*large sponge cut into long strips about 1 inch thick
*aluminum foil
*perm papers (also called end papers)
*hairspray or setting spray (some kind of 'fixing' spray)
*comb
*hair clip to hold away hair not currently being used
i think that's all.

how to:
part hair horizontally from ear to ear and pin up top part.
grab section (on thin hair probably 3 sections on bottom. maybe only 2) and comb to smooth. spray, and end paper on ends, wrap vertically and sideways (/),bend ends of sponge into the middle. let down the rest of your hair (for more hair part from temple to temple) and do the same.
you can either go under a dryer or blowdry to heat it up (it must be heated completely and cooled completely to work properly). apply makeup or make dinner while cooling.
when cooled, take out sponges gently and finger comb.
if you are running late the next morning just heat up some pomade in your palms, dab on your hair , then finger comb. pull back the sides and pin in back. beautiful.
takes between 30 min. and 1 hour- depending.
Braids! Braids are good for your hair and scalp, especially if you use a little bit of conditioner before you braid... works MAGIC on your hair and ends. Then, when you take the braids down, your hair is nice and wavy.

you can do a braid, bun, or anything you want. Just cause you have a baby doesn't mean you have to have your hair up all the time though. My daughter sometimes grabs at my hair and I just pull it away from her grasp and tell, "no no mommy doesn't like that." Hope this helps.
You know, I had long hair too when I had my baby. I actually had long hair all my life. I was always wearing it back when he got old enough to grab it. Finally, I was sick of it and I looked up different hair cut's online. I went in and chopped it all off and I love it! It's so much lighter and easier to manage. I feel like I was missing out and I don't think I will ever go back to long hair. Not telling you to cut it but this is just my story and it's the best thing I could do for myself because I really wanted a change. Plus, I was brave and it payed off!

Okay, the only suggestion of mine is to go to a professional hair stylest and tell him what you want. He could probally do the best for your hair. Seriously, dont go just anywhere for a good hair cut and good bangs.

Bobs are in fashion now and side bangs, i think you should have a bob with a short side bang, if you want to have your hair in a pony tail you can use some pins to secure the rest of your hair. good luck!
I have really fried hair from *dying,chemicaly straightening,my flat iron, blow dyer* I want HEALTHY STRAIGHT HAIR!!!!! I'm trying to grow my hair out. But the beauty salon said I needed it cut. If I don't get it cut will my hair stay damaged even if i dont' touch it with anything?
I had the same problem. The answer is yes, but you can cut the damaged hair and healthy hair will grow back. If you want to fix it, make sure it is a length that you are happy with.Then, get some mousse, shampoo, and conditioner. It really doesn't matter what brand you get. Next, try to get a cheap hair dryer that has a cool setting if you don't already. ALWAYS at least finish drying your hair on the cool setting. I don't know why but it seems to control frizz. Finally, trim it often. Trimmed hair grows faster. Eventually, all your damaged hair will be gone and nice hair will have grown out to replace it.

Try to go to the salon and ask them to put a treatment in your hair. They'll know what to do. Or just go to walmart and try a few hot oil treatments every week. It really helps. That's what I do!
The damaged part of your hair is lost. The damage has already been done. There are things that you can do to help keep the frizz under control, though. Frizz Ease makes some really good products. They have products for getting your hair straight and for just eliminating frizz. Their Extra Strength Hair Serum works well. Give their product line a try. You may like the results.

get some cholesterol its in the African hair care products section, cake it in your hair, put a sower cap on and sleep on it! when you get up blow dry it , the heat will open the hair shaft and allow the product to absorb into it. then wash it with some professional hair care shampoo.and comb it as it drys naturally
Once the hair is damaged it is permanently damaged - hair can't repair because it is dead cells.
There are products available which can mask the appearance of the damage. Pantene is full of silicone which coats the hair shaft and makes it look better. Also Jonathon Frieda has some great Frizz-Ease products.
get your hair trimmed a little bit, use leave in conditioner. for rinse conditioner use mayo. use smoothing serum and frizz controll. us e a shampoo for frizzy hair liek ganier smooth and sleek. youll see a differents. and alwasy shampoo, rinse and repeat
I have the same problem, Like the other person said You can't do anything about your damaged hair but to cut it off and the only way to keep your hair straight is to get it permanently straightened at a salon which the average cost is $200 depending on how much hair you have and every six weeks or so you would have to return to the salon to get touch ups. And for frizz what may help is Citre shine, the problem is is that it makes your hair look greasy and oily but thats only if you spray too much on. You probably already knew all this stuff, but if you didn't I hope I helped.
she's right you must start with healthly ends and well conditioned hair. let her clip those ends. you hair will get worst if you dont get those damage ends removed.

and then push it forward and hold with a couple of hair pins then take the rest of the hair and put it in a ponytail. simple I do it all the time also basic ponys with a headband look cute

Go to a good hair salon, not a chain, and ask a good hair dresser what they think. I go to one and when I need a change I just ask my hairdresser what she thinks. If my idea is bad she has no problem telling me. I know it cost more that Fantastic Sam's and such but its my hair.
Go to a good salon. Not some cheap $11.00 place and tell them you wnat a new look. Many of the higher priced salons have experience with makeovers and what will look best with your features. I went into Dillard's and did that and I love what she did!!! It may take a bit to get used to, but I'm sure she will talk to you and ask you what you want, tell you what will work for you. You can also take pictures that you like, but remember, most pics have had a professional stylist to do that do.

Go to a good alternative hairdresser and ask for an emo cut ... the hairdresser can analyze your hair and give you the best cut. As for 'color' if you want to add some, you can go to any 'beauty supply' store and buy cans of 'spray on' color that will wash right out ... it comes in virtually every color known (including 'acid green' and 'bright magenta') and your mom should be able to 'accept that' far more easily than getting your hair 'dyed' ... besides which, you can get several cans of spray, and can 'change your colors' every day if you want ...

How close are you to the bride and groom?? I would just wear your hair down and straight if its usually curly/wavy and curly/wavy if its usually straight because people don't really get dressed up for weddings!!
Go with the style you are comfortable with. If you are the bride, you will feel so much better going with a style you generally wear than some stupid updo that you will hate for the rest of your life. If you are the an attendant in the wedding ask the bride, then guide your stylist or yourself to a style that looks good on you. I have made wedding cakes for years and the best weddings are the ones where everyone is comfortable and being comfortable is being yourself.

I have tight ringlets/afro hair that used to be really long and thick but is now thin.it just looks thick because it's frizzy.it's dry and damaged from years of straightening and hair colourants. do you think if will get back to being long and beautiful like before? if so what can i do with it in the mean time if i can't striaghten it? it's shoulder length and frizzy and clumps together so i don't know what to do with it.
Just keep combing it out. Grow it and keep having the frizz trimmed.

I reckon you should get proper treatment at the hairdressers if it's not too expensive. Then continue as they advise you. You probably look great anyway, but a little tlc will help!
Condition condition condition.
Use a deep penatrating conditioner such as biolage, paul mitchell, or back to basics.
If you blow dry your hair use a difuser, it really helps keep the frizz out, when blow drying use a small round brush and add a little curl to it. When your finished try a hair wax to piece out the curves. Crew makes an awesome hair wax for guys, that I use on my hair often. It doesn't make it look greesy but don't use too much of it. Make sure you have your ends trimmed often so you can get ride of the dead damaged hair and it can grow faster!

just use Magical Grow it's sold in sally's beauty supply for about five dollars. only use a little bit, or else it will stay with you for days.
buy a curling shampoo and a therapy conditioner like dove. try cutting your hair in layers, and tin it a little bit. that way, you won't loose your curls. blow dry your hair with a diffuser, and put a little bit of Paul Mitchell's sculpting foam to not make it look so frizzy.
and if you don't want to do any of that, just use some mousse, and citre shine, combined with curling shampoo.

i dont shampoo everyday but i condition everyday before bedtime
before i go to bed i put in some mousse (and maybe anti freeze serum liquid) - loreals curl stuff- and scrunch my hair with my hands....then sometimes i blow dry the top so it wont look all crazy in the morning...and if it does, i put it in a loose pony for about ten minutes (while i wash my face, get dress etc) and then take it out and im good to go. Sometimes i part it on the side with some bobby pins or a nice clip.
loreal's mousse keeps my hair soft so thats why i like it...you dont need to use it if you dont want to, you could just take a shower and scrunch your hair, then go to bed (the pony thing really helps tame it in the morning...and so does blow drying the top, maybe try putting it in a half pony and then blow drying the top of the half pony) it really depends on how curly your hair is tho...
if you like showers in the morning then just do the same thing- just blow dry it a little so it wont be sopping wet before you leave

Wash your hair with ONLY conditioner. If your roots need shampoo, then coat the bottom half of your hair with conditioner while you wash to protect it from the shampoo. If you used shampoo, then rinse and repeat.
If you don't use shampoo, here's the deal: work conditioner through your hair, massaging your scalp and working out the loose hairs. Rinse only enough to distribute the conditioner through your hair--a lot will be left in your hair, and it should feel smooth and sleek, not "squeaky." Squeaky BAD. Towel dry, scrunching your hair from ends up to the roots.
Apply a small (like, coin-sized) blob of clear, light gel to your palms, rub them together, and scrunch them through your hair. Ta-da! Get the book, because there are more details than I can outline for you, but you basically treat your hair gently, like delicate fabric, and it will respond beautifully. It works for me! And my hair smells *fantastic*, by the way--people love the smell of my hair. I use Aussie Dual Personality conditioner and an unscented shampoo on my roots. And give it a few washes to work--your hair has to be trained properly to respond well.
You can mix some lemon juice with your conditioner every now and then to remove the conditioner and gel residue and leave your hair shiny and bouncy. Plus, it'll help the blonde color.

i have curly hair and i love redken.really makes it less frizzy.its 8.95$ for shampoo and 11.95$ for conditioner.
With curly hair it is easy for it to become damaged, since most people use products to control/ defrizz/ etc. these curls.
I have curly hair myself - so I share in your pain... but what has really helped me is to
1. Do not wash your hair every day!
2. At least once a week wash your hair with a shampoo which is made to detox it/ or get out all other products. (ask stylist to recommend any there are so many)
3. Get a conditioning treatment every 2-3 weeks. This will really help keep those curls healthy well hydrated so they won't frizz out on you. They only cost like 10-50 cents at Sally Beauty Supply Store. You can do this at home on your own.
4. Hopefully you know not to brush curls...

check out Garnier fructis style soft curl cream. i have shoulder length wavy thick hair , i love this product!!!!! also dont brush, use a pick, dry your hair a little bit use the cream style with fingers and go.
You've got to try Pureology Hydrate. I had very, very , dry curly hair. This stuff is a miracle!! I've tried EVERYTHING and this stuff really works. It's fairly expensive, but it lasts for quite a while, about 6 months. You only use about the size of a nickle. Look for it on ebay, it's much cheaper. Don't pay more than $40 or so for the shampoo and conditioner.
Get it thinned and then gel it in the morning. The thinning will give you less fullness but still alot of curl this way you have less hair to work with.
hair shine, it comes in a pray bottle. My cousin uses it and it really works. It's like miracle in a bottle.

I have very curly, unruly, blonde hair, too. I keep it trimmed to just below my shoulders, in razor cut layers to give it some control. I have to wash and condition it everyday, or I can't get a comb through it....I use a pick, actually-never a brush! Then when it's wet I put a curling serum in it, either one for curls, or an anti-frizz serum, and let it air dry. It only takes me a few minutes. For work, I usually have a headband in, just to keep it out of my face for microscope work. When working in the barn, or with my horses, I'll put it in a ponytail. I hated my hair growing up, but now I love it and wouldn't change it for anything!
after you wash it put moouse in it and scrunch it up and air dry... or treseme has a product for curly hair....try any SPRAY in stuff... don't do gel it is a thing of the past! Or put biosilk in it and let it air dry.

Have your staff dress as elves with their uniform tops (elf shoes, tights, hats, if warm enough) showing off all the things offered at your salon and spa. Your staff could also pass out cards with discounts on certain packages. (Make sure they follow all the parade guidelines for giving out items) Have fun with this.
How about setting an area on the float for the salon and have someone sitting in a Hairdressers chair with one of the old type hair dryers over their head, and set up a spa with some one sitting in it and get your employee's to wear their uniforms advertising your salon, and acting as if they were attending to their clients........might not be of any help but its a thought, good luck

Pull it all up into a high ponytail on the top of your head, except the bangs, then curl the ponytail into soft ringlets and either spray or pin them, whatever you have to do to make them stay. It will stay out of your way and look pretty. Brush the bangs to the side like normal and spray them a little too, so they stay out of your face. Good luck on your solo!

Depending on your dress, you might be able to wear it down, with some nice ornaments styled into it - like flowers or jewels. It's very difficult to style chin length hair, so this may be your best option. This work best with a dress that's open, something strapless even.
grow it until the wedding , it will give you more options, you could also do extensions, if you wanted. if your hair doesn't grow that fast or you don't want extensions, than you could just pick up the front of your hair and leave the back long
Braid out. simple to do.
steps:
-If you want a part, place it in your area of choice
-pick up a chunk of hair, the amount depends on how deep you want the wave texture in your hair to be
-put a setting lotion or wrap foam on hair, you can braid or cornrow hair ( try both methods to see which you like)
-do this a night on freshly washed hair, wrap hair with a silk scarf
-in morning un-braid hair, finger comb, and use oil sheen or hair oil of choice for shine
Thats it no heat, no fuss, last for a couple of days. Easy to redo.

get a regular wrap, I don't know how long your hair is but a roller set is nice a nice loose curl that's pretty. I like stuff like that.

Just a suggestion, but if you want to cut it short I'd suggest getting it cut short in a few haircuts instead of one.
I cut my hair from my upper stomach to just above my shoulders in one cut and have regretted it everyday since then.
Don't cut hair. Long hair is beautiful.My hair is down to the middle of my back and I cut of 1 inch. I regret cutting it every day. Even tho I still have long hair, I will never go back to short.

be careful it can really change the look of your face and takes ages to grow out.
best bet is goggle %26amp; search fringes for either short or long hair depending on what u have. Make sure though before you cut a fringe that your crown is not in the front oterwise your fringe will never set.
